Hi All,

Im just looking for help regarding tuning my Ford Mondeo ST TDCI. It is a 2005 model. Im looking for an exhaust system from the Turbo to the backbox. I have this link below as an example. Im also looking to get the OEM Intercooler upgraded to something better, I have also added an option. Looking for opinions on both.

From what I remember, the gearbox can only handle 360nm

Have you considered getting a motor which can do over 200Bhp as standard?

BTW, this place is dead.

Hi

A couple of alternatives for you. I have the MIJ system on my ST and it's bloody heavy and still having problems stopping system moving on mounts and touching body.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOSPORTS-STAINLESS-STEEL-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-FORD-MONDEO-ST-2-0-2-2-TDCI-TURBO-BACK-/382120494826?fits=Model%3AMondeo&hash=item58f82806ea:g:ZDIAAOSwAO9ZOVjl

Top flange on MIJ decat was slightly out of line which prevented me fitting bolts to bottom mount, until I have an opportunity to modify I have fitted a Toyosports decat pipe. This is well made in thin bore tube, performs well but is missing a bottom mount so may fail through flexing.

With intercooler you will have to fabricate mounting brackets.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the advise on the Exhaust and the intercooler. Would you have an input into where I can get an intercooler with the connection hoses and Brackets. Also just for the craic any ideas as to where I can go for a hybrid Turbo, just more or an interest than actually getting yet. What would be the max Bhp and Torque on a standard ST Gearbox....

With the intercooler, any suggestions as to where I could get the Silicon hoses for the attachments and the brackets to mount it... Please

If you search back through the archives I posted pics of my intercooler installation a few years ago including home made brackets. The standard hoses were in good condition so I left them on

Performance wise you'll find little improvement in BHP changing the intercooler but the increased torque is well worth having.

The best bang for your bucks is a remap. Decat and intercooler. If you want to spend money on making your motor sound nice go ahead and fit a twin pipe stainless steel exhaust. It makes little difference to the BHP and may reduce it slightly as you'll have two silencers as opposed to just one in the standard exhaust set up, hence reduced flow. Best bet is probably a single straight through silencer. Forget fitting replacement filters unless again you want a nice sound. The OEM filter is just fine.

The TDCI engines seem to respond differently, some give more output than others as standard and as tuned. So don't be surprised if you don't see the amount of increased performance you expect. Also beware the "tuned" rolling road. All rolling roads are not the same and neither are the operators!

Do the mods I've recommended and you'll get a smile on your face especially using the in gear acceleration. Good luck and enjoy, I did! :driving: :L

If you search some of the archives on this forum, you'll come across some work me and a few other members to our mk3 STs.

For my ST, I ended up with de-cat, free flow stainless steel exhaust, egr delete, larger intercooler, custom hybrid turbo, panel filter and a custom tune.

From the stock of 155bhp, I achieved 220bhp. So it is do-able, providing you have deep pockets.

Trouble is Ben is it worth it? Many ordinary TD family saloons these days put out around 180/190 odd BHP and more as standard so a quick remap and they are up to your old BP for a fraction of the expence. One reason I went for a Beemer was that with a local remap plus two runs on a rolling road for £375 it now puts out over 280bhp and 620 Nm of torquies. By Beemer tuning standards that's a very very mild tune indeed. Remove the DPF and fit a larger intercooler and it would be over 300BHP without upgrading the turbo!

I'm afraid times have moved on, even with good money spent on the old Mondy you'd be hard put to see off a Merc sprinter van!

I'm not anti Mondeo I regret to this day "giving" mine away. It was a bloody nice motor!
