Can anyone please help?

My Mondeo 2.2 TDCi ST was running absolutely fine until the other day when it suddenly lost all power and cut out. There was no warning lights on the dashboard. The car would turn over but would not run. Eventually after several attempts I managed to get it running but I had to keep the revs above 2000rpm or it would cut out again. The recovery guy told me that the car was only running on two cylinders and it was throwing neat diesel out of the exhaust.

Initially we suspected the injectors but these were removed and checked by a diesel injection specialist who confirmed that the injectors were absolutely fine. Secondly the EGR valve was checked but again this was found to be working correctly.

The car will now occasionally start up and run on all four cylinders but for a maximum of two minutes then it will either drop down to running on two or three cylinders. Has anyone on this forum experienced anything like this? Could the problem be the ECU? The car was re-mapped about two months ago.

Many thanks

If it was the map I would expect the problem to be evident much earlier.
Has the fuel filter been changed recently? Try a new Ford one.
When it cut out did you still have full electrics? If not check for bad earths.

Yes I had full electrics.

Has the fuel filter been changed recently?

The car is serviced every 10K the last service was carried out 4K miles ago and the fuel filter was changed at that time.

When the recovery guy arrived there was no error codes present either. Its really very strange as all the people I have spoken too have never heard of anything like this happening before. I thought I would ask on here in the hope that someone somewhere may have either experienced the same problem or heard about a similar kind of problem.

Thank you for replying to my post, when I eventually find out what the problem is I will let you all know.

Regards
