I have to admit to never understanding the fashion for treating exhaust tips to a burnished effect. As the very coldest part of the exhaust system it seems odd to me to give the tips a burnt look which occurs at the engine end of the exhaust.
Each to their own though and it's not my car

It's that I see cars as bit of engineering. Your motor is a diesel and the exhaust tips wouldn't get hot enough to burnish up. If they did you would have a lot to worry about
My mk3 is the same colour as yours and when I clean it I clean the exhaust tips inside and out. It seems a shame to me to get your car looking really nice and clean and then have dirty looking tips...........it's like you missed a bit
It's weird but in a rat look car they would look ok IMHO even though I'd still know they would have pretend burnt areas. I was looking at a Saxon the other day. It had the front bumper 'repaired' with grip ties through holes even though it hadn't been damaged and the front doors were all dented in (done very carefully to avoid the crash reinforcing bars inside). To me it is a strange fashion but I can still appreciate the work the owner had done on the car.
It's only my opinion but burnt exhaust tips on a car with a very cool running, low revving engine seems out of place

Just a pity the diesel exhaust doesn't fit the petrol

I have a JP exhaust and my tips have a rolled rear edge that is a slash fit like the OEM tip.
What I like about mine is that the tips are fitted so the longest part of the slash is at the 2 o'clock position on the left tip and the 10 o'clock position on the right tip. That means the tips match the shape of the bumper better than just having the longest section at the 12 o'clock position (I hope that made at least some sense lol).
I polish my tips with auto Glym metal polish.
