Outside Ambient Temperature

Hi guys I have had my Mondeo X Sport 2.0 Petrol 240PS a while now 2 and half years I think and in this latest heatwave for us ( 25deg here ;) ) the coolant temperature is normal and no messages but the outside ambient temperature (only in traffic or stationery) goes up to 37-40deg and all the fans kick in. I do expect the sensor to be a little over with the sun on the engine etc but I have never seen it this high in the last few days. When I am out of traffic and drive again it falls back to 25 degrees etc.

Would it just be the sensor (and where is it?) (air con/fans/heating all working fine). I did notice when i switch the engine off lately the fans don't stay on either anymore so something is playing up!

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks Mike, Yes I just think it was just too hot/humid day - no breeze (ambient temperature was nearly 30 degrees when I started the car anyway from sitting in sun for 8-9 hours) then stuck in traffic straight for 1 hour solid, so hot to start with, then with exhausts and heat haze from the tarmac.

It has been fine since and all fans are working after I switch engine off for 1 min. I also found having the air con off in extreme heat lately does help drop a few degrees off when in traffic (most commuting days!).

I will get it checked out when I pop it in for a service as it could be an intermittent fault with the fan, thermostat, sensor or software and ask them to plug diagnostics in to check it out as the coolant levels all fine and aircon kicks in every time. :L
