I was wandering through a car park recently when I spotted a very smart looking motor I didn't recognise so I had a quick look and was gobsmacked to see a Ford badge on it! I don't know what the colour is called but it was the new mondy STline in "perforation " Blue!

What a great looking motor in my opinion. I'm not about to buy one but if I did it would be a diesel so what would be the best spec and the best engine to buy?

Sadly it wouldn't go in my garage-----------

Thinks---s'pose I could leave it on the drvie though? :} :} :}

OK Ray thanks for that. I was just curious because I thought it was a great looker on the outside!
Sorry to say I'm not well up on the latest Ford range now. :blush: :blush:
Im not either Peter :)
I only know what ive seen in various threads. One of the most common complaints is that some extras arent available as options on the STline. This almost seems to guarantee the spec stays lower than the standard higher trim levels.

Hi Mal thanks for the pic your motor looks very nice as usual! What's the spec engine wise and have you got any mods?
Hello Peter, it's a 2.0 EcoBoost with full automatic box (torque converter instead of DSG)
It was used as the development car for the Bluefin remap which took two visits and 6 days to complete coding on the new Ford cyclone firmware.
It is fitted with a CP-e Intercooler which was the first to be exported to the UK from its manufacturing plant in Maryland USA.
It also has the Eibach Pro-Line lowered springs fitted which had to be ordered in from Germany, at some point I will fit the Bilstein shocks but they were not available when springs originally fitted.
It also has a Turbosmart Billeted blow off valve (BOV) to replace the standard plastic & rubber Ford version.
It goes very well indeed and the pickup is very rapid when you hit the loud pedal, the torque steer is much more prominent after the Bluefin but controllable when you know it's coming.
MPG wise I get around 26mpg which isn't bad for such a large bus with a recorded 0-60 timed run averaging 6.2secs.
I had hoped to replace the very restrictive down pipe but all the tosspot UK manufacturers aren't interested in such a low volume product, hence I may have to import once again from the USA. But even this can be hit & miss as differences between the Fusion and Mondeo's.

After doing all the dash modifications using ForScan I have to say it's probably the best Mondeo I have owned and something I enjoy driving, I do miss the mpg of the oil burners and the torque rush in 3rd gear but my EcoBoost pulls all the way to 3 figures with no loss of boost so I'm happy.

I Installed a Blackvue 650s 2 channel dashcam at the weekend and very impressed with the setup and iPhone integration.

I was going to upload a photo but the website software keeps telling even after editing and resizing several times that the file is to large..

Thanks for all that Mal somehow I had a suspicion it might not be standard! :} :} :}

You're right, for a big motor the acceleration time is very good. Pity about the fuel consumption but you can't expect to match a derv and depending on your annual miieage does it matter?

Talking about an auto box, I've always gone for a manual. I waited a while to find my Beemer as manuals are a little bit rare. Having said that my son has an Audi A4 Derv with an autobox and I'm amazed how smooth it is and how well it picks up!

I've had my Beemer for 3 years now and I'm beginning to think maybe it would have been better with auto. :blush:

Dash Mods:

Digital Speedo

Live TPMS reading

Motion Locking

Accessory Timeout set to 15 minutes

Their are more settings available like Fuel history and Cross Traffic Alert but havent had time to fully test them yet, to busy doing DIY on the house.

Also Upgraded my DOD LS430W for a BlackVue 2 channel.

Oooooh tell me more....miss the fact you can't read tyre pressures as in the old system. I did ask the local dealer if it was a "fault" but was told no the new system doesn't show the individual tyre pressures.

Is it an easy "mod" to do ?

All you need is a Modified ELM and ForScan loaded on a laptop then it's just changing a few blocks in the as built module.

Can't post up a picture as the website size limit stops me

Excuse the ignorance Mal but ELM is?

Got Forscan but never used it.

I have the USB version from the link posted.
The modified ELM is a must have for any Mondeo owner as this interface coupled with ForScan can diagnose and modify modules and settings on par with dealer level equipment.
I also own a Genuine Delphi DS150e VCI running the latest 2017.3 software and the ELM is always in my toolbox which shows how good it is.

Er! just reading back though these posts, lads why not just use a tyre gauge Simples! Or don't people get their hands dirty anymore? :stir: :} :}
Just another way cars are getting less 'hands on' I guess, along with the likes of park assist and active city stop etc etc. Makes you wonder how long it will be until we just sit there and they drive themselves to our destination doesn't it?

The trouble is they already do!

Whatever happened to the golden age of motoring when everybody had a tool kit in the car. When you put a blanket over the engine in winter to keep the engine warm. When you had a choke and a starting handle both of which didn't help on a winters morning. When a heater in a car was an expensive optional extra so you had a hot water bottle instead! When you serviced your car yourself----every 1000 miles! When you loved the road holding with your new crossply tyres. When your brakes worked sometimes and sometimes they didn't. When you spent all weekend servicing you car just to go to work on a monday morning! Oh and you had a tyre pressure gauge in your tool box along with a spare set of plugs and points!

What deep joy we had without mobile phones, tablets and AP's! :} :} :} :stir: :L

I must say as nice to drive, safe and reliable the latest cars are, I do think you become somewhat detached from the basic driving experience in them. I drove a new Kuga over to North Walsham a while back and as nice as it was, it almost seemed like every input from me was assessed by the car before it was accepted. Then again it certainly made my ST feel rather old when I got back in it!

Another thing while I'm moaning; I think it's because I'm never in a new car long enough to get fully used to it, but I find the new breed of large touchscreens in these cars rather distracting too; there's so many functions all in one place. I guess it probably becomes second nature once you get a feel for it but there's something that seems more simple about a physical button with just one function assigned.

Don't get me wrong any of you guys with a new Mondeo etc has got a cracking car and sure if I was doing a decent annual mileage (and didn't spend all my spare cash doing up,our home....) I'd seriously look at one.

Right, I'm off to find a mk1 Cortina in the classifieds and put a blanket over the engine ready for winter :)

OK mate I'm just having a stir and a bit of a laugh :}

But although I love these modern cars there are a lot of distractions in them which I think is not good given the amount and speed of modern day traffic, particularly on motorways. But even here in good old Norfolkshire you probably know as well as I do of the dangers we face in the countryside so you can't let your attention wander or be distracted by reading a sat nav --------or even a tyre pressure read out!. :driving: :} :}

BTW your ST seems nicely spec'ed? :L

Yeah we sure do, not so long back I had a close encounter with a rather large grumpy-looking deer when I was out Thetford way, it was a good test of the old reactions to say the least! Glad I was driving one of the firms cars at the time :)

Thank you :) Yeah it's fairly well kitted aside from a sunroof. It's just starting to feel it's age a bit now (12 years in October), nothing really wrong with it, just not quite as sharp if you know what I mean? But for 2-3000 miles a year it's fine, and it made it all the way from Norfolk to Loch Ness and back last year without missing a beat :) It started out life as a Ford company car, hence the spec, then a guy in Haverhill bought it as a Ford Direct car and I bought it from a trader 5 years ago and it's been faithfully carrying the dogs and home renovation supplies around for me ever since!

sounds as though it's been a good old work horse? There is a Performance blue jobber here in DM located in someones garden. it hasn't moved much for several years so I guess it's being left to rot now which is a shame. From a few yards away it doesn't look too bad, certainly the bodywork looks reasonable and as far as I can see so do the lovely ST alloys! Maybe there is something mechanical that is seriously wrong? It looks original and unmodded and I think it's an 03 reg. I hate to see motors just left like that! :blush: :blush:

My last three Fords were all ex direct cars and good value for money. I still regret getting rid of my 06 Tit X TDCI it was a great motor which I had for over 6 years. But the bug bit, the right car turned up at the right time and money so I went to the dark side and purchased a non Ford for only the 2nd time in nearly 60 years of motoring! But I'm still a Ford man at heart hence I still look in on the Forum. :driving: :}
