Started my st tdci today drove it across the car park switched it off went to start it again coil light flashing and it was in limp mode after switching the engine off 3 times then started fine then drove it 100 miles with no problem egr is blanked and unplugged .
Since the EGR is disconnected and blanked one of the other sensors must be feeding a false voltage to the ECU. Try cleaning the MAF before doing anything else.
It did it at ford fair when I was stuck in traffic so I turned it off then it went in to limp switch it off and started it a couple of time then all good I have a mate with a code reader so I will get it checked the only thing perhaps I was a bit quick from turning the key on to actually starting it .

Started it in the garage no problem reversed it out switched it off cleaned the maf limp mode switched it off still in limp switched it off again no problem took it for a drive switched it off a few times no problem since I cleaned the maf it seems to go even better. This is going to be a pain to find .

yeah you're right mate I'm puzzled! Mine went into limp mode several times while I had it and each time it was down to the EGR! At one stage while deciding whether or not to change the EGR yet again I made sure the valve was completely closed and then pulled the electrical plug off it and it ran like a dream for over a thousand miles albeit with the ECU light on!
Probably not relevant but has your EGR valve blank got a hole in it?
Mine was an 06 too. Because you pulled the plug it doesn't necessarily mean the valve is closed it could be stuck partly open. You would need to do a physical check to be sure.
Sorry for bumping this up but what did you do in the end?
I've got a problem with mine going into limp mode (usually when driving fast but sometimes on start up). I've ran it through the diagnostics when the coil light is flashing but have got no codes showing up.
Two bolts and a circlip very easy to fit no only on start up .code my mate code reader found my problem straight away
