Hi guys.i have a 2005 st tdci and have covered roughly 105000 miles.love the car but I seem to have acquired a clunking noise from the rear offside.its not always when I go over bumps. Sometimes pulling away I hear it.took it to rapid fit and the tech said my coil spring had snapped.i have replaced that both sides and the spring housing at the top.i have also changed subframe and renewed drop link arms.its still there.any ideas guys.it sounds like the springy clunk.cheers spence
I'm also having similar issues at the moment. '56 Hatch ST TDCi.
I'd had a bang/squeak from the rear offside for about 3 monthsish. I thought it was a broken spring but two local garages had a look and said it was ok just a dry mount. MOT time came and you've guessed it failed for a broken rear offside spring.
So I've had both springs changed and both Drop links. Still Squeaked/banged. Took it back and had the top mount changed. Still squeaking/banging. I grabbed the spring the other day with the weight of the car on it and when trying to twist it can make the squeaking noise occur!!
Any ides?
The rear subframe has poly-bushes fitted and the handbrake cables are sound.
Just been to a different garage and apparently the rear spring was nt sat in the top housing correctly.now.it is all seems well.no longer any clunking noises.
Bump.
I know it was a long time ago and this is a lomgshot but I don't suppose you remember what was wrong with how it was seated in the topmount? I have a very similar fault from your description and think this could be it.
Matt
