My understanding is its a 3.5 = i.e. facelift

Technically the outgoing model is the Mk4, the Mk2 facelift was considered by Ford as more than just a facelift as the roof was the only skin panel carried over. Ford also considered what we know as the mk2 Mondeo, just a facelift so the new Mondeo is the Mk4 not a Mk5.

So what model is the current Mondeo ?

It's completely different from what we know as the MK3 ?

What we know as the Mk3 is the Mk2, the current (outgoing) Mondeo is the Mk3.

Think you wrong on that one. New model with new looks equals a new Mk.

When they tart up the existing model its a facelift or as Bmer call it "life cycle improvement".

The current Mondoe is the mk4. When they introduced the front DRLs, rear LED lights, moved the side indicators to the mirrors and redid the dash, it technically became the mk4.5.

The mk5 is due 2015.

Same goes for the focus. This is only a face lift.

 Mk1, Mk2, etc. are all just designations derived by the public etc., not Ford, they designate the models by the year they update or renew them.

What is commonly referred to as the MK2 Mondeo was a facelift of the 1st Mondeo or MCA (Mid cycle action) as Ford refer to them. Hence the car which recently went out of production is the 3rd derivative and the new one, available now, is the 4th.

I feel a headache coming on  . . . . :}

Mondeo History

:L

Yeah, Clear as mud, 1st generation is Mk1 and Mk1 facelift is the Mk2, 2nd generation is Mk3, 3rd Generation is Mk4, 4th generation is Mk5?

Like I said earlier, 1st gen (92-2000) = Mk1, 2nd gen (2000-2007) = mk2, 3rd gen (2007-2014) = mk3, 4th gen (2014 onwards) = mk4. Mk5 is a few years away yet.

What matters is that when someone refers to a Mondeo MK4, people know what model it is. The fact that it should be called MK3 doesn't really matter at all, as we all know what model the MK3 Mondeo is... ;)

In reality, taking into account the Sierra, the latest Mondeo is in fact the Cortina Mk12 and the Focus is the Escort Mk8

Unless you factor in the Ford Zephyr and Anglia.

Uh-oh, I'm getting confused now... :}

I have a mk3 2.0 tdci with a remap witch is 178 bhp I hope that they have sorted out the torque steer and the poor front end grip when under hard acceleration.

48bhp from just a remap.......id be impressed if you could show me a dyno graph with the figure on it
