I phoned my insurance company (the one with the red phone) today regarding the mods being done and to be done in the next few weeks. Lets just say that I was very disapointed.

They said they would cover the mods like decat & ss exhaust but when it came to the upgraded intercooler it was a no no.

They also said they would cover a remap as long as it did not add more than 20% horse power to the stated manufacturer power figures, needless to say I am now going to find a new insurer before I change the intercooler & remap.

Can anyone give some good examples as to what they are paying for their mods and who insured with, thanks.

I mentioned to my insurer (Priviledge) that I was THINKING of adding a Roverron unit but hadn't bought one yet (as I thought it would be wise to ask them first) to get better fuel consumption, they immediately tried to add £120 to the cost. Then they tried to up my insurance by £175 for 25 years no claims etc.

Got a new insurer the next month.

Theft.

I'm with Aviva. Not sure how much they added for each mod as I got a quote for all the stuff before I added it when my renewal had been due but they were about £200 cheaper than the next quote and it was also cheaper than the renewal quote (from another company) for an unmodified car.

A wee update on this.

After a lot of phone calls I finally got a great quote from Chris Knott insurance and explained about the modifications to the car. Their quote that was actually cheaper than the red phone company before the mods so was very pleased.

Just goes to show that if you have the time to shop around there are some good deals to be had.

In Oct 2010, Chris Knott added £20 for Bluefin (23 BHP) and £10 for GW Decat (11 BHP). This month they quoted £20 for Racebits Intercooler (5 BHP). They quoted me the same for the Airtec intercooler (10 BHP) last month.

My insurance reneal is end of Aug, so these are all part-year figures.

Add £12.50 admin charge for each time you change stuff. So do all 3 mods together and pay the admin fee just the once to cover them all.
