Welcome to the Forum!

It's highly unlikely the airbox is causing overboost mate.
Are you sure there aren't any other mods?

A code readers what you need mate, the car will have a fault code stored in the ECU.
You'll be cheaper buying one from Fleabay, there about £50. Which is about £20-30 less than Frauds will charge you!

I would say you have a Boost Solenoid problem, very common fault on your car/engine,replace with new boost solenoid.
