Ford is developing a seat for older drivers (like Peter :} ) that measures the occupants heart rate using sensors and alerts the driver to any problem.

Still a couple of years of testing to go and they have not yet found a way of getting it to work through thick clothing (guess which age group wears the thickest clothing......)

Does it have a special lining to absorb liquid in case of any "old age" related accidents?? :} :} :}

Right you bunch of reprobates you're all in my little black book and I know where you live! You really shouldn't mock the elderly don't you know?

OK so us pensioners have a few small medical problems, but inside some of us are party animals (especially when the tablets kick in) The free NHS tablets I mean!

Anyway I reckon that seat could be the latest pensioner thing. One modification I would suggest is a tube down to the bottle I have to keep under the dash.
And another tube direct into the engine intake. That way the stuff I have to currently pour out the window on a long journey will no longer upset people following on motor bikes! Plus a bit of water injection might just give the old TDCI a bit more power.
A similar system could also get rid of the excess methane that comes with advancing years.-------------- I can visualise the old motor going like a rocket!

An added bonus would be that Mrs P (Mrs Pee ha ha! that one just slipped out!) would no longer have to sit with the window open because of my personal problems. She may of course have to leave it open for her own personal problems which shouldn't be discussed here!

So yeah I'm all in favour of a special seat for pensioners. Anything to be rid of the itch from the incontinence pants! :D :D :D :D :D :banana: :banana:

Absolutely 10 out of 10 for that one GT!-------------you totally cracked me up this morning! :D :D :D :D :D :L

Re the drivers seat-----------the Peterex mind went into overdrive and my idea's stemmed from the chat I had at Duxford about Water Meth injection and NOS.
So I thought maybe we should develop a system that was a little more Green. After all the Government is encouraging "Green awareness". So what better than to harness the power of bodily emissions? OK so it wouldn't be really efficient except for the more elderly amongst us, but "one small step for man" and all that! So we have the potential here to harness our waste, reduce fuel consumption, make the world a greener place and finally make our cars go like stink! -------------Thinks, wonder if we could apply for a Government grant? :L

Not the complete answer Neil--------------I still wouldn't be able to see the dash and the speedo although it would make a change to see where I'm going! :D :D :D :driving:

Oh come on you don't look at the speedo now so how would changing the windscreen make any difference.... or

......................would it be a case of:-

"sorry officer, no I didn't realise I was doing 120.... it's this new fangled bi'focal screen but at least I can see where I'm going, just not the speed!"

He'd have to let you off................. genius!

Well that's a point of view (sic) I hadn't though of Dicky! :D :D :D
Got to admit the speedo is sometimes surplus to requirements when the occasional Red Mist descends! :driving: :L

Peter, you obviously haven't thought this through properly now have you?? As mentioned (and I know also from first hand experience) the "older" generation of drivers dont look anywhere else, other than straight in front. I know this as EVERY time I get behind one of these so called "experienced" drivers they:
Fail to indicate
Never drive at the posted limit (even though theres bloody signs every other lamp post)
Change lanes, again with no indication and usually nearly into the side of me
Fail to notice most hazards up until the very last second (pedestrians, pot holes, road works etc)
The list is endless, yet as soon as I overtake you can guarantee that they speed up and flash their lights. This can only be because they can now see me as Im in front of them. There's many more OAP style mods Ive got in the pipeline such as replacing the horn with the Countdown music, a whole range of Magic Tree air fresheners in scents to suit the elderly (stale wee scent is the most popular atm), replacing the centre console armrest with a newspaper/magazine rack and a few others Id like to keep under my hat as they're in the final phases of development but I will send you the prototypes to give them a proper "road test". :L :} :} :}

Good grief I thought this thread was dead! Oh well here we go again!

"older" generation of drivers dont look anywhere else, other than straight in front." good place to look we can see where we're going (once we have the glasses on)!
"Never drive at the posted limit (even though there's bloody signs every other lamp post" What limit, what signs?
"Fail to notice most hazards up until the very last second (pedestrians, pot holes, road works etc" What pedestrians, pot holes, road works ?
"as soon as I overtake you can guarantee that they speed up and flash their lights." 'cause we want to race!
"replacing the horn with the Countdown music" no point we can't hear it!
"Change lanes, again with no indication" Just like BMW drivers!
"Magic Tree air fresheners in scents to suit the elderly" Must tell Mrs P about that idea!
"newspaper/magazine rack" Brilliant idea I can put the mobile phone down!

And finally you did mention changing lanes. -------------------------in the old days we never had so many to choose from, so it's still a novelty! :D :D :D :banana: :banana: :driving:
