Nearly half a million consumers visited TescoCars.com in its first month.

Importantly, female buyers accounted for almost a third of all sales thanks to the focus on a no hassle, no pressure sales experience.

During the opening weeks of trading, the most enquired for cars reveals that the nation’s motoring tastes are nothing if not consistent, with popular models from Britain’s “Big Three” of Ford, Vauxhall and Volkswagen dominating the Top 10.

Aided by the exclusive Tesco Cars Lifestyle tool – which helps visitors find models to match their needs - Ford’s best-selling Focus topped the inaugural chart, fully 25% higher than the second ranked BMW 3 Series.

Three Vauxhall models – the mid-sized Astra, Corsa supermini and the Zafira compact-MPV – and a brace of Volkswagens were also amongst the most searched.
