Wonder if anyone can help here. My car has started giving a slight feedback when the steering wheel is left of straight ahead position. Feels like something rubbing. There is also a faint noise which sounds kinda like a wheel bearning but softer. I'd it feels like the prob is coming from front left corner. Wheel bearings aren't very old though - changed in April so don't think it's that. No play in wheel either. Think it's got slightly worse over last few days though not 100% on that. Car drives fine, just would like to know what is causing the odd feel. Should add, it sometimes does it a bit turning right but only on certain steering angles.
Any ideas would be interesting to hear.

don't take this the wrong way but tyre pressure? they can look inflated but be low on psi. mine looked ok but only had 11 psi in my front passenger side sorted out the odd feel when it was pumped up.

I have heard of this before and done a search and there can be various causes.
Amongst them are....
Worn wheel bearing.
Worn CV joints.
Detached brake hose.
Wheel rubbing on trim.
Power steering pump noise.
Steering rack problem.

Well tyres are ok. Wheel bearing should be fine as not that old. Brakes working well and wheel not fouling anything. Doesn't sound like pump noise so steering rack and CV joints seem the most obvious it could be from that list. To my eye the CV joints look ok but that doesn't mean much I guess. Any ideas on how I could narrow down the problem?

Mine does if every so often. I was driving it today when there was a clicking sensation through the steering wheel. I think if is my steering rack. Anyone know how much one will be for my ST?

Although it can be other things the most common causing of the clicking noise is a worn CV joint.

It could also be the Suspension top mount bearings starting to go, as they can give a creaking / clicking feeling through the steering, when turning

Hi i found this information in a earlier post it could be worth you looking at this also. If it is it's a quick easy fix, remove cowling under steering columb, undo pinch bolt on bottom of steering rack, and seperate, apply silicone grease on the rack and make sure it gets well worked into the plastic bush by sliding up and down, ford reccomend using a new pinch bolt but i didn't, reassemble and see how it goes

That applied to early Mk3s which later were fitted with a modified rack. Don't know when the change came in. Drivers sensed a clonk through the steering and Ford issued a TSB on it. I don't think it's the same as Paul is getting?

What i'm getting is more a very low intensity, low frequency vibration. Similar slightly to the feel you get if you go through brake pads and end up backing material on disc (i once under estimated how worn my last cars pads where - you live and learn). There is no clunking or violent feeling, just a feeling as if something is rubbing. Can't see anything obivously abnormal but it's now doing it a bit when headed straight as well as turned to left. Also it's only really felt above 30 and particulary bad around 50/60.
