what would one say to a comment like this - this relates to the oil burners. I use 5-40 a1 castrol fully synth and I didnt see anything wrong with it....

Fully synthetic oils are ‘pushed’ as the ultimate choice but we beg to differ.
Fully synthetic oils are too ‘thin’, this results in oil leaking past valve stem seals and past turbo seals resulting in blue smoke at start up and oil in inlet/boost pipes.
We personally use and advise that a semi-synthetic oil is used with a rating of either 10/40 or 15/40, these oils are more viscous and are less likely to weep past seals. These oils also deaden engine ‘tapping and ticking’ sounds.

The oil must comply with the grade quoted by Ford for this very reason whether synthetic or not.

I think the grade quoted by Ford for the TDCi is 5W30.

5w30 is the ONLY oil for us oil burners mate, and as rickmanchester said it must have A1 after it for it to be the correct Ford grade.

10w40 or 15w40 is NOT recomended and i would never use it

My mistake I use 5-30 a1 as was recommended by a member on here. And by the looks of things all swear by it. Thanks for replies. Just wanted to know if there was any logic behind the it all. Thanks all!
