I have just won a set of centre caps for an ST TDCI, they have some scratches etc. Im gonna have a go at refurbing them, so i need a bit of advice. I intend to get some low gade sand paper and sand down the scratches/corossion, then apply plastic primer. Once this has dryed i will then apply the paint. Once dry i will apply the laquor. Does this sound ok?
Cheers

I done my Toyota alloys last year. Its all in the prepping. The smoother the surface the better. using a clean cloth clean the surface with white spirits. Use a Tack cloth to remove any dust & particles. You will know after you apply the primer if there are any imperfections. If you see any, do not paint. Address them before you apply the paint. Back out with the sanding paper. When it comes to spraying, take your time. I tried not to spray to much, as though the surface looked wet. Before you paint, you to need prep the surface of the primer for the paint to bond to. I used a green sanding pad to smooth the primer and score it. You can also use a very fine wet and dry thats been soaked in water for about ten minutes. Let the surface dry. Again try not to spray to heavy. I waited 5min between coats. didn't want to wait any longer as my garage is full of dust, more chance to contaminate the surface. I never prepped the paint before applying the laquer. I recieved loads of comments on my wheels. Try the process on one cap the first time.
