I'm looking to buy an St in about a months time. As such i've been keeping an eye on what is for sale where. Maybe it's just me but prices seems to be going up for the TDCI. Is this a trend others are seeing and if so why would that be? with the new Mondeo out and the new reg coming soon I was hoping prices would take a bit of a hit.

I got mine about 3 weeks ago and from what I've seen prices have been rising for the past 6 months. Although i don't know why, demand maybe?
If you look around and take your time in buying one there are good reasonably priced examples out there, it's just a waiting game. It took me a month of looking before the right one popped up.

I guess the spec + performance combined with the mpg or the diesel is what's doing it. I'm in no rush to buy so will be holing out for the car I want.

It's only demand that drives up prices. It's an excellent package and people know they are good value for money.
Couple that with the reduced numbers of ex-fleet cars coming onto the market and the prices remain solid.
Only good if you are selling of course.....

It's the perceived image that's driving up the prices. They are asking silly prices around this neck of the woods for high mileage cars.
You could of course join the more exclusive club of Ghia X and Tit X owners. You won't get them in "Perforation Blue" but they do come in "discrete" Sea Grey, or better still "distinguished" Silver!

I've been looking at the Ghia X's and the Titanium X's as well. Both don't have the looks of the ST for me but if they have the right alloys and colour they can look good. Not sure about the wood steering wheel etc.
I'm looking to get a facelift ST, sub 75K on the clock, Xenons are 99% a must, rear parking would be nice and if I got very very lucky the Recaros would be the cherry on top. For that i'm thinking about 7k but time will tell if that's realistic. end of August is when I'll be in a position to buy.

I was never a great fan of the wood effect in cars but I would never have bought mine if I didn't like they way they did it but I actually like it. It's not in your face like some and compliments the black interior and leather etc. But I understand that it's not to everyones taste.
The new Mk4 Ghia had horrible orange wood effect which wasn't popular at all so God knows why they changed it from the type in mine. I think they have dropped it now.
It is worth comparing prices though because you may be paying a premium for the ST badge but still get a fully loaded car with the GhiaX or TitaniumX. Mine has everything I want except a glass panel in the roof would be nice even if it didn't open. Other than that it's got all the toys to play with.

The reg change will not make a difference on these since they are over 3 years old now.
Just find the right car and buy it. There are loads around.

Don't forget the 07 was the end of them, so not many around and the new model was out.
New shape 2.2 TDCI Titanium X are starting to come back from lease. so, if you fancy a new shape model going cheap I would wait 6 months.

I paid £10,500 for my 07 plate with 23k on the clock last month.
Seems a bit expensive but thats what they were all going for at the time.

It's low mileage though which must push up the price a bit though. spotted what looks like my ideal car.... but it's a month too soon!

Depends if you buy from a dealer or go private or E-bay - dealers have them up for silly money.
I paid £6.7k for a 55 plate (30k on the clock) in Feb 2009 - bought it private from auto trader. It wasn't perfect - front jacking covers were missing - had a scratch on paintwork but mechanically sound now done 49k with no major issues -touch wood.
Prices do seem to have gone up since then.
