Morning All,
Pretty straightforward query this one. My wife has lost the \'spare\' key to our ST which now means we only have my original \'main\' key.
I\'m wanting to get a second key again but I\'ve got conflicting advice.
The owners manual lists a fairly strightforward procedure that involves various stages to \'programme\' another key plip.
The local Ford dealership however say that if I want to order another plip I would need to take the car into them and have the entire system reprogrammed at considerable cost!
Which is correct?
My focus is an ST on a 56 plate.

There is more money in it for the dealer if they do it.
See if you can get hold of a new one and try it yourself first. I would have thought it was straightforward.

That\'s what I was thinking to be honest, greedy dealership looking to make a fair old wedge!
I might just take the chance on a new remote fob and run through the procedure in the manual.
Thanks.

You need two keys to program one yourself (So you need two keys to program a third). If you\'ve only got one, I think you\'ll have to take a trip to Ford, and get them to program you a new key. Then buy yourself another key and program the third yourself.
You can get a new remote and blank key on ebay for about £30, then ford will charge you about £80 (last time I checked) to cut the key and program it to your car.
Good luck

I agree with Tennooge - it\'s exactly what I fould when my dorter lost her car key. I was tempted to buy a third key & use the car to program it myself in case it all happened again. But I would still have to get it cut somewhere. Do the shoe repair / key cutting places do these Ford Chubb keys?

Hi
Assuming your Focus alarm/immobiliser works exactly as the Mondeo system, you can programme car to accept the remote functions of a new key with one original.
But to pair transducer to be recognised by the cars immobiliser you need two working keys before you can programme car to accept a third.
Presumably this is a security issue to prevent a garage copying a single key when car is in for work.
Before spending money with Ford check yellow pages. There may be a Locksmith local to you who can clone your existing key and save a little money.

ST56 & Tennooge
I\'ve spoken to a few Auto Locksmiths and so far I\'ve had no luck finding anyone who can clone my key.
One or two have said they\'re awaiting the relevant software but no one will commit to a date when they may be able to carry out the work.
ST56 your exactly right about the immobiliser situation, this is the biggest sticking point when you only have one key.
The price from the dealership includes a new key fob and blade (cut obviously) plus the reprogramming of my existing key and the new one, a new ignition barrel and labour costs.
It looks like this is the only way to go for now. I shall re-post if I have any luck in locating an Auto locksmith who can do the job for less.
Thanks everyone for the advice.

Hi
There should be no requirement to change ignition barrel.
With replacement key cut, Dealer only has to plug in diagnostics. Wipe lost key from memory then reset to accept the new key and original you still have.

Interestingly enough I\'ve had a quote today from an Auto Locksmiths of £95 all in for a new remote fob complete with re-programming.
He told me the dealership has basically fed me a load of BS and said he\'s done plenty of jobs like this for exactly the same type of car. Apparently he does a lot of work for dealerships so I\'m fairly confident he\'s telling the truth.
At the end of the day if he comes out and does the job I\'ll soon know if it isn\'t legit as the car simply won\'t start. I\'m hoping to bring the car into work next week and get it done.
Once again, thanks for the advice and I\'ll let you know if I have success with this. Fingers crossed!

Hi
Not a bad price. Ford would probably charge near that sum just for key fob and blade.

It\'s a 3 button fob, the type with a slight curve to it on one side then flat along the other.
I\'ve had to put this on the back burner unfortunately as I\'ve had to replace both front tyres and also there seems to be a lot of road noise coming from the front end. I\'m assuming the bearings need replacing but I\'m not sure.
On top of that some t**t has keyed the rear passenger side quarter last week so that\'s taking priority at the mo.

Nik,
Whatever you do, make sure you get the lost key deleted from the system, just incase someone finds it.
