Last night at aprox 8.30 pm i found a pothole in with both offside wheels, and now need two new tyres.
The pothole was at a set of traffic lights, and not visible until i turned left and was on top of it, so avoiding it was impossible.
I estimate that i was doing about 20mph when i hit it, and the bang was enough to cause the ESP light to flash for a second or two.
I didn't notice any damage when i parked up as it was dark, but today i have found the front tyre to have a bulge, and the rear tyre to have a cut in it.
This could be a blessing in disguise as i was planning to change all 4 tyres at the end of the month anyway, but now i will have to find the money a bit sooner for 2 of them and hopefully claim it back.

Sh*t, that's a bad one. Roads are f*cked at the moment after all the ice and snow.

Yeah i'll be putting in a claim tomorrow.
It means i will have to spend a bit more on the tyres as i won't be able to use my regular tyre depot who do me excellent discounts, so if i don't get paid out for them, it might be costly.
Worth a go though.

That's bad, I am getting peed off with all the pot holes, road from my house is like a slalom course.

You were lucky not to damage the wheels.

Nearly went down a large pothole myself today, managed to just avoid it after seeing it at the last minute.

I don't know yet if the wheel is damaged or not.
It happened 2 miles from where i parked up, and the limit was 30 so i never really got any speed up to notice any difference.
Last time i had a tyre bulge it shook the car above 40mph.

I also took a short video to see how other cars drove on the same corner, and both of the cars that travelled over the pot hole had been at a standstill from the lights, so were probably going slower than i was.

They are all over the place around here.

The crappy patching they did last year and just came away in the frost. You have to remember where they are and it's like doing a slalom course!

There are loads in this village too, but that one is one of the worst both in size, and when it is located.
I checked on www.fixmystreet.com and there has been a report of potholes in this area since the end of jan, so the council have been aware of it for at least 1 week now.
I'm hoping that will work in my favour.

I'm proberbly going to start something here, mine's bigger than yours.

The potholes up my road are bigger and deeper than that, there's about 20 of them in 50 yards.

All the rubble coming out of them is pissing me off also, as I avoid the holes and hear the stones clattering in the wheel arches and against the side skirts.

Time the council stopped wasting my council tax on jollys and spent it on the road.

I expect there are bigger ones on most roads, i've certainly seen bigger ones elsewhere, but this one is in a position thats tricky to see as its on a corner.
I have reported it on fix my street in the hope that it gets sorted quickly, and may help someone else make a claim if it doesn't get sorted.
I just hope a biker doesn't hit it, or it could be a much more serious claim.

I agree it's not too bad when you can see the potholes, but as you say, it's not good when you can't see them in time to avoid them.

Hope you manage to win your claim.

I will be walking up my road tomorrow and taking some pictures to upload to the website you put up (thanks for that).

Can't believe nobody up my street has reported the potholes, but saying that I drive round them most days and have done nothing.

I only found out about that site tonight when i googled on how to claim for damages from the council.
If it helps a few people report the worst pot holes, then it should hopefully make our roads a bit safer.

Tough luck mate, I wish you the best of luck with your claim.

The same thing happened to me on the evening of New Year's Day. I was coming out of Sefton Park (in Liverpool), near where I live. Was doing about 20mph and then felt that horrible clunk sound; I knew instantly that one of the tyres was wrecked. Pulled over and, sure enough, the front n/s tyre was as flat as a pancake.

Unfortunately for me, the Drive outside where I live is unadopted and therefore no one accepts responsibility for keeping it maintained. It has always been pitted but, since the cold snap, has become an absolute nightmare to navigate, especially at night.

For what it's worth, I'm going to photograph the numerous craters and compile a dossier. I've already submitted a couple of reports on the 'fix my street' site.

It's cost me nearly £300 to replace the two front tyres and get a wheel alignment done. Drivers should expect the roads to be in a safe state to drive on; it is 2010 after all, not 1910.

What exactly is the Road Tax for again?

Hope you get somewhere.

I haven't yet when I hit one and cracked an alloy.

Cost me 300 quid for new wheel, tyre and alignment.

So far you haven't had people on here blame your driving like they did on my thread!

To be fair I can't see anyone was blaming your driving. I think they were just surprised that the pothole you mentioned caused the damage and were thinking that maybe it had already been damaged that's all. But it's just luck of the draw what happens when you hit the buggers

In our area we've lots of pot holes and like others here some are very deep/large.

Its obviously a problem all over as I was in Cambridge at the weekend and there are loads there as well.

My real concern is that not only are we going to see damage to cars but theer might end up being accidents where drivers have been trying to dodge these holes and not watching the road.
If a man speaks in an forest and there isn't a woman there to hear him, is he still wrong?

My wife isn't speaking to me as I didn't open car door for her. Can't understand it, as I only opened my door and swam to the surface!!

A man isn't complete till he's married, then he's finished!!!
