Next year the new Focus will be the first Ford to include full built in internet access ability.

Both Ford and Audi will be the first to roll out internet access in their vehicles with other manufacturers following.

Drivers will be able to surf, email and Skype using the feature on an 8" sat-nav type touch-screen in the dash using Microsoft technology and a plug-in keyboard is optional.

Internet access will be via a USB internet dongle or Bluetooth/3G from your phone.

When parked you will also be able to use a the vehicle as a hot-spot to use your laptop. The onboard screen will close down when moving but passengers can still use a laptop etc.

--------------------------

Could this be the end of the conventional sat-nav? If the screen was allowed to stay on just for sat-nav use when moving you would get real-time online map, traffic and speed camera updates as well.

"using Microsoft technology" - I can't wait

Although, to be fair, the rest of it sounds like a gr8 move.

Does anyone else wonder.... WHY?
You use a car to drive places, and depending on what you drive depends on the comfort level. Why park up somewhere to surf the net when it can be done at home?
Or on a mobile phone?
And with microsoft... asking for trouble. Ford already have issues fixing their own equipment, i hate to think what mess they would make of a windows powered system.

If you ask the forum for an opinion of your latest modification, please don't take it personally if I declare a distaste. You did ask for my opinion and I gave it.
If you ask for 'Good feedback only' then I will keep quiet unless I like it.
